Before a material or component reaches the end customer, it is tested to determine whether it is potentially toxic, can form a coating or simply smells unpleasant.
Objective: Automotive manufacturers have their own material standards. The seminar provides an overview or an introduction to testing according to automotive standards. Examples are used to discuss release requirements and explain the standards listed.

However, the use of regrind, regranulate and the like is accompanied by concerns about material quality among some processors. This seminar will provide an overview of current analytical methods to address issues of purity, material degradation, and granule composition, and ultimately help you evaluate and test recyclates.
Objective: To provide an overview of current analyses used to determine the material quality of recycled plastics: What should be looked for and how can various deviations be determined. In addition, general information on this hot topic will be provided.

Plastic components are exposed to a wide variety of environmental conditions in use, which can cause the components to break, crack or exhibit other defects. Selected tests can assist in classifying whether the part is a “good” or a “bad” one. Load tests or benchmark tests can be used to ensure good quality. Even if components show defects in later use, there are always ways and means to find out what the problem was.
Objective: The simulation of environmental influences on plastic components is a broad field. Examples will be used to give an overview of which methods are possible. Comparative tests can provide information on which components are “good” and which are “bad”. Analytical tests can be used to identify causes of failure.

The Spotlight will feature the possibility of material modification of 3D printing materials. Thermally conductive materials are on everyone’s lips. Especially for the electronics industry, where heat has to be dissipated from the electronics, thermally conductive plastics play an important role. However, such material modifications can also be imagined with other functions. Keywords here are antibacterial, antiviral or even EMC shielding. In combination with additive manufacturing, completely new possibilities arise for this fast-growing industry.
Objective: Modification of materials for additive manufacturing in order to be able to realize properties of injection molded components in the prototype phase / development close to series production by means of 3D printing.

Tool surfaces in injection molding are exposed to harsh conditions. They must withstand high temperature and pressure loads and be as resistant as possible to wear and attack by corrosive substances. Targeted coating of the highly stressed and often very cost-intensive tools can produce higher-quality injection molded components and effectively increase the service life of the tools. By extending maintenance intervals, improved resource and material efficiency is also achieved.
Get an overview of coating technologies and properties of surface modifications and learn which coating can help you achieve increased productivity and reduced scrap. The session will be rounded off with an insight into the latest research results from the non-profit KIMW Forschungs-GmbH.

Kunststoffbauteile sind im Einsatz den unterschiedlichsten Umgebungsbedingungen ausgesetzt, die dazu führen können, dass die Bauteile brechen, reißen oder sonstige Defekte aufweisen. Ausgewählte Tests können bei der Einstufung, ob es sich um ein „gutes“ oder ein „schlechtes“ Teil handelt, unterstützen. Durch Belastungs- oder auch Benchmark-Tests kann so eine gute Qualität gewährleistet werden. Auch wenn Bauteile im späteren Einsatz Defekte aufweisen sollten, gibt es immer Mittel und Wege, herauszufinden woran es lag.

Im Rahmen des Spotlights wird die Möglichkeit zur Materialmodifikation von 3D-Druck-Materialien gegeben. Wärmeleitfähige Materialien sind in aller Munde. Gerade für die Elektronikbranche, bei der die Wärme von der Elektronik abgeführt werden muss, spielen wärmeleitfähige Kunststoffe eine wichtige Rolle. Solche Materialmodifikationen kann man sich aber auch noch mit anderen Funktionen vorstellen. Stichwörter hier sind Antibakteriell, antiviral oder auch EMV-Abschirmung. In Kombination mit der additiven Fertigung ergeben sich ganz neue Möglichkeiten für diese schnell wachsende Branche.
